An Update from Dr. Smith, September 3, 2026

An Update from Dr. Smith, September 3, 2026

Dear Fort Bend ISD Family,

It has been a fast and furious start to the school year!

Since my last community message, the district received:

  • The state’s final accountability ratings for the 2025-26 school year,
  • Results to the district’s culture, climate and engagement survey, and
  • Preliminary results from our secondary boundary stakeholder survey.

Presentations were given on each of these topics at Monday’s August 31, 2026 Regular Business Meeting and can be viewed here.

Here are some key takeaways.

2026 State Accountability Ratings

I am excited to share our district earned a solid “B” rating, increasing two points over last year to an 82. Also, several of our campuses had historical gains. In case you missed it, I encourage you to watch my video message below I shared with our community last week to celebrate our district’s accomplishments.

Culture, Climate and Engagement Survey Results

Last spring, our district asked parents and guardians, students, and staff to complete a survey to help guide our efforts to strengthen the culture and climate of our schools and district.

Stakeholders shared feedback in five areas: Learning and Growth; Leadership; Recognition and Wellbeing; Belonging and Respect; and Communication Responsiveness. Results found that:

  • 62% of parents, guardians, and staff are satisfied with their experience in FBISD.
  • All stakeholder groups reported favorable experiences in Learning and Growth.
  • Elementary students and all staff reported favorable experiences across all five survey categories.
  • Parents and guardians reported favorable experiences in Learning and Growth, Belonging and Respect, and Recognition and Wellbeing.
  • 80% of staff said they trust their direct supervisor.

Long Range Boundary Planning Update

The district also received preliminary results from our secondary boundary stakeholder survey, which presented different scenarios that will help us balance enrollment at our secondary campuses across the district while prioritizing keeping cohorts together and maximizing programs offered at each campus.

Timeline

  • Small meetings with Board members - Week of September 8
  • Meeting with School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC) to review survey data - September 16
  • Make-up session with SBAC members who could not attend September 16 meeting - September 17
  • Present public feedback at Regular Board Meeting - September 28
  • Present final recommendation at Board Agenda Review Meeting - October 5

Community-wide Tailgate Event

In closing, I’d like to invite you and your family to join us as we kick off the 2026-27 athletic season at a community-wide tailgate event on Wednesday, September 9 from 6 – 8 p.m. on the home side parking lot of Mercer Stadium. There will be representatives from all 12 of our high school athletic booster clubs, food trucks, interactive booths, free giveaways, live performances and more.

I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Dr. Marc Smith
Fort Bend ISD Superintendent
