An Update from Dr. Smith, July 31, 2026

Dear Fort Bend ISD Family, 

It is hard to believe the first day of school is less than two weeks away. Our campus and district leaders are busy preparing to welcome our students and staff for the new school year.  

I am excited to share this month’s In Focus with our community because it provides evidence that the hard work by our students and staff is paying off. 

Additional STAAR End-of-Course Highlights 

Last month, I shared preliminary 2026 STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) results showing that FBISD students outperformed the state passing rate in all five EOC subjects—Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History.  

Since then, additional results have become available. Please remember, although we do not expect them to change, these results are still considered preliminary because the data does not include AP Testing and Spring Dual Credit results, or Special Education data. Final accountability ratings are expected in early September. 

Here are a few highlights: 

• FBISD remains highly competitive with our neighboring school districts 

• Grades 3 – 8 exceeded state and region scores in Reading 

• Ten campuses saw growth across two or more STARR/EOC areas 

• Internal data shows there is significant progress being made toward the Board of Trustee’s goal to have 90% of our seniors College, Career and/or Military Ready when they graduate
