Fort Bend ISD Earns Texas Way District of Distinction Honor for Second Consecutive Year

FORT BEND ISD (June 22, 2026) – Fort Bend ISD has been named a Texas Way District of Distinction for the second consecutive year, recognizing the district’s continued commitment to sportsmanship, character and community engagement in athletics. 

Fort Bend ISD was one of 39 districts across Texas to receive the honor this year. The award was announced during the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association annual convention. 

The District of Distinction honor is awarded through The Texas Way, a statewide initiative connected to the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association and 2Words Character Development. The program promotes respectful behavior and good sportsmanship among student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans at UIL athletic events. 

Throughout the year, FBISD Athletics supported The Texas Way by encouraging positive sportsmanship both on and off the field. Student-athletes helped share the message through public service announcements shown before games. The district also hosted a community pep rally that brought students, families, coaches and community members together to celebrate school spirit and reinforce the initiative’s values. 

“This recognition is a reflection of the values we strive to instill every day in Fort Bend ISD Athletics,” said Derick Roberson, FBISD Executive Director of Athletics, and Deborah Mize, FBISD Director of Athletics. “We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes, coaches, families and supporters for demonstrating that success is measured not only by wins and championships, but also by sportsmanship, character and the way we represent our schools and community. This honor belongs to all the FBISD Team.” 

The recognition reflects the efforts of everyone across Fort Bend ISD who continue to represent their schools with pride and demonstrate what it means to compete The Texas Way. Congratulations to FBISD Athletics and all who help carry this message forward across the district.
