Literacy - Curriculum and Instruction

Fort Bend ISD's Literacy programs serve students in grades EC–12 through a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop confident readers, writers, communicators, and critical thinkers. Across Language Arts and Social Studies, students strengthen essential literacy skills by reading and analyzing a variety of literary and informational texts, writing for multiple purposes and audiences, responding to reading through discussion and written analysis, conducting research, evaluating evidence, and communicating ideas effectively. Students also have opportunities to extend these skills through literacy-focused electives such as Broadcasting, Yearbook, and Photojournalism, where they apply reading, writing, speaking, listening, and media literacy skills in authentic, real-world contexts.

As part of the district's commitment to academic excellence, students participate in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) at designated grade levels and courses to measure progress toward mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
