Research Request

Fort Bend ISD supports high-quality, ethical research that enhances student learning, informs best practices, and drives continuous improvement. All research conducted in the district must align with district priorities and meet established guidelines to ensure minimal disruption and protection of student and staff data.
Overview
- Reviewed through a formal application process overseen by the Research Review Board (RRB)
- Ensures alignment with district goals, legal and ethical standards, and clear educational value
- Proposal are carefully evaluated for alignment, impact, and feasibility - Approval is not guaranteed
What Qualifies as Research
Research in FBISD includes activities such as:
- Surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observations
- Data Collection, analysis, and interpretation
- Program Evaluations and curriculum studies
- Grate theses, dissertations, and capstone projects
Note: Requests using only publicly available district data do note require approval. A Public Information Request should be submitted instead.
Application Process
To conduct research in FBISD:

Submit an online research application with all required documentation

Provide research instruments (i.e. surveys, interview protocols)

Include IRB approval (if applicable)

Submit a data privacy and confidentiality plan

Allow at least 6 - 8 weeks before your intended start date for review
The Research Review Board (RRB) meets regularly to review submissions and determine approval, conditional approval, or denial.
Requirements & Expectations
All Research Must:

Align with FBISD's mission, vision, and strategic plan

Demonstrate clear educational value to the district

Minimize disruption to instructional time and district operations

Use sound research methodology

Comply with privacy laws and regulations (FERPA, PPRA, HIPPA)
After Approval
Approved researchers are expected to:

Follow all district guidelines and agreements

Complete any required data-sharing agreements

Ensure data confidentiality and security

Submit final reports or findings as required
