You should lock your device when you are not using it or leave it unattended. You should also use a strong password that is not easy to guess. You should not store any personal or sensitive information on your device, such as bank details, social security numbers, or photos. The device and data belong to the school district and can be accessed or deleted by them at any time.

What Are My Responsibilities for Safe and Responsible Online Use?

➤ Student Responsibilities for Safe and Responsible Online Use

No technology filter can block every online risk. Students are expected to help maintain a safe and secure online environment by:

Following district technology policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
Using district technology only for appropriate educational purposes.
Practicing responsible digital citizenship.
Protecting passwords and never sharing account credentials.
Reporting concerning content, messages, suspicious activity, unexpected pop-ups, or possible security concerns immediately to a parent, teacher, or campus administrator.
Keeping GoGuardian, web filters, security software, and district device-management controls active.
Downloading or installing only software, applications, and browser extensions approved by the district.
Avoid opening suspicious links, files, or attachments from unknown or untrusted sources.
Do not disable or remove district security settings or antivirus software.

Each EquippED laptop includes district-managed antivirus and security software that is installed, maintained, and updated by Fort Bend ISD.

⛔ Prohibited Actions

Students may not disable, remove, alter, or attempt to bypass GoGuardian, district web filters, antivirus software, security controls, monitoring tools, device-management settings, or network protections.

Consequences of Interfering with District Safeguards

Attempts to interfere with these safeguards may result in disciplinary action or loss of technology privileges, subject to district policy.

How are students protected while online using their EquippED laptop?

➤ Online Safety and Technology Protection

Fort Bend ISD uses multiple layers of technology protection to support safe, secure, and appropriate online access for students using district-issued EquippED laptops.

➤ Web Filtering and Network Security

All internet activity on an EquippED laptop is routed through FBISD’s web-filtering and network-security systems, regardless of where the device is used.

These protections remain active when students connect through the district network, home internet, public Wi-Fi, or another available network.

➤ Device and Cybersecurity Protection

FBISD’s filtering systems are designed to help block harmful, inappropriate, or unsafe online content. Each laptop also includes district-managed endpoint security software that helps protect against:

Viruses and malware.
Suspicious files and applications.
Unauthorized software.
Malicious websites and downloads.
Other potential cybersecurity threats.

GoGuardian and Student Safety Monitoring

Fort Bend ISD also uses GoGuardian and related educational technology tools to support classroom instruction, web filtering, student engagement, device visibility, and student safety.

Student internet activity on district-owned devices may be filtered, monitored, logged, and reviewed both on and off campus by authorized district personnel.

How Does FBISD Use GoGuardian to Monitor and Protect Students?

Fort Bend ISD uses GoGuardian and related educational technology tools to support instruction, classroom management, web filtering, device management, student engagement, and student safety.

➤ What Parents and Students Should Know

When a student uses a district-issued device, district-managed account, district network, or district technology resource:

Online activity may be filtered, monitored, logged, and reviewed by authorized FBISD personnel.
Web filtering and safety monitoring may remain active both on and off campus.
Authorized staff may review activity when investigating safety concerns, misuse, threats, or possible violations of district policy.
Students should not expect personal privacy when using district-owned devices, accounts, networks, or technology resources.
Students may not disable, alter, bypass, or interfere with district security, filtering, monitoring, or device-management controls.
Attempts to bypass district controls may result in disciplinary action.

➤ Classroom Monitoring

During authorized instructional sessions, GoGuardian may allow teachers to:

View student browser activity on district-issued devices.
Guide students to approved instructional websites.
Close inappropriate or distracting browser tabs.
Support students during digital classroom activities.

Important: Teacher classroom-control and screen-viewing features are not available when the student’s device is off campus.

➤ What GoGuardian Does Not Do

GoGuardian does not:

Record student keystrokes.
Track the laptop’s physical location.
Record student screens.
Access the laptop’s camera or microphone.
Allow teachers to control the device while it is off campus.
Allow teachers to view the student’s screen while it is off campus.

⛔ Bypassing District Controls

Students who attempt to remove, disable, or bypass GoGuardian, web filters, security controls, district software, or device-management settings may lose technology privileges and be subject to disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct. Any resulting damage, security issue, or repair cost may also be assessed to the student.

Students must use district technology safely, responsibly, and only for authorized educational purposes. Students must not attempt to remove or bypass GoGuardian, web filters, security controls, district software, or device-management settings.
