EquippED laptop insurance helps reduce out-of-pocket costs associated with accidental damage, loss, or theft of a district-issued student laptop.

Coverage Terms and Review

Insurance coverage follows the student, not the device. If the laptop is exchanged or replaced, the remaining coverage and incident balance continue without resetting.

All incidents must be reported promptly and reviewed by authorized FBISD staff. Final coverage decisions are subject to program terms, the insurance activation date, annual coverage limits, inspection findings, incident history, and district records.

Coverage is valid through August 15, 2027.

➤ Insurance Pricing

➤ Before You Begin

EquippED laptop insurance is available only to eligible secondary students.

• A separate insurance purchase is required for each student.
• Enter the student’s correct six-digit Student ID number without leading zeros.
• Incorrect student information may prevent the account from appearing in the RevTrak Webstore or delay insurance activation.

➤ How to Purchase Insurance Through RevTrak

1. Enter the student’s last name.
2. Enter the correct six-digit Student ID number without leading zeros.
3. Select the student’s home campus.
4. Select the payment amount from the Price drop-down menu.
5. Click “ADD STUDENT OR STAFF ACCOUNT.”
6. After the student is successfully added, click “ADD TO CART” to continue with payment.
7. Before completing payment, verify the student name, campus, price, and insurance item.

➤ Late-Purchase Insurance: Inspection Required

Families who miss the open-enrollment deadline may still purchase Late-Purchase Insurance through RevTrak. Coverage cannot be activated until the student’s district-issued laptop has been inspected and approved by the FBISD Technology team.

Important Coverage Notice

Insurance coverage will remain pending until the laptop inspection is completed and approved. Any pre-existing damage identified during the inspection will not be covered.

➤ Inspection and Coverage Activation Process

• Inspection Required: After purchasing insurance, the student must bring the laptop to the campus EquippED 1:1 Laptop Support location, typically located in the library, for inspection by the FBISD Technology team.
• Coverage Pending: Coverage will remain pending until the inspection is completed and approved.
• Confirmation: After the inspection, the student will receive an email at their district email address with the inspection results and confirmation that coverage has been activated.

✓ Coverage Follows the Student

EquippED laptop insurance is assigned to the student, not to a specific laptop. If FBISD exchanges or replaces the student’s district-issued laptop during the same coverage year, the student’s remaining insurance coverage will continue with the newly assigned device.

➤ Coverage Does Not Restart

Receiving a replacement laptop does not create a new insurance policy or reset the student’s coverage. Any previously used repair incidents remain counted toward the annual coverage limit.

The coverage period and available incident balance remain unchanged.

Example

If one covered repair was used before the laptop was replaced, the student will have one covered repair incident remaining.

⛔ Failure to Return District Equipment

If the laptop is not returned:

• The device may be reported as missing or unreturned.
• The full laptop replacement fee of up to $560 may be assessed to the student’s account.
• Additional fees may apply for missing assigned accessories.
• Insurance does not cover failure to return district-issued equipment.
• For withdrawing students, records or transcripts may be withheld until all district-issued equipment is returned or the outstanding balance is resolved.
• For graduating seniors, unresolved fines or unreturned equipment may result in the diploma being withheld.

➤ Returning the Laptop After a Fee Is Assessed

If the laptop is later located, it should be returned promptly to the campus or designated FBISD Technology location. The device will be inspected, and any assessed fee may be reviewed based on its return status and condition.

Important Fee Review Information

Returning the laptop does not automatically remove charges for missing accessories or damage identified during inspection. All fee adjustments are subject to district review and device records.

⛔ Zero Tolerance for Intentional Damage

Intentional damage is not considered accidental and is NOT covered under EquippED laptop insurance, regardless of who caused it. The student assigned to the laptop remains responsible for protecting the device and preventing others from accessing, misusing, or damaging it.

➤ Insurance and Financial Responsibility

When damage is determined to be intentional:

• The full applicable repair or replacement fee may be assessed to the student assigned to the laptop.
• A replacement laptop fee of up to $560 may be assessed when the device is considered a total loss.
• A replacement district laptop may be withheld until the assessed fee is resolved.
• Campus administration may be notified to investigate the incident, determine responsibility, and decide whether the fee should be assigned to one student or divided among multiple students.
• Insurance benefits may not be applied to the incident.

➤ Safety and Student Conduct Violations

Intentional damage, misuse, or unauthorized tampering with a district-issued laptop creates a serious safety risk and may be treated as:

• Intentional damage to district property, not normal wear and tear.
• A potential safety hazard.
• A behavioral and disciplinary incident, not solely a device-damage matter.

⚠ Safety Alert

If a device smokes, sparks, overheats, or produces a burning odor, stop using it immediately and do not turn it back on. Turn the device over to a campus staff member or technician.

➤ Students with Active Insurance

• Contact the campus Technology Support location, typically located in the library.
• IT staff will verify active coverage and the number of remaining covered incidents before determining whether a fee applies.
• A replacement power cord may count as a covered incident. Families may prefer to reserve coverage for a higher-cost repair, loss, or theft.
• Replacements are subject to available inventory.

➤ Students Without Active Insurance

• Families may purchase a compatible power cord from an outside retailer.
• Confirm the approved model with the campus or EquippED Program before purchasing.
• If a lost power cord is later found or returned, notify campus IT staff so the related charge can be reviewed and removed from the student’s account when applicable.

Important

FBISD cannot reimburse families or issue insurance credit for a power cord purchased independently.
