It is strongly recommended that students keep their laptops with them and never leave them unattended in a vehicle.

When leaving the laptop in a vehicle is unavoidable:

• Store it securely in the trunk, completely out of sight.
• Keep it inside its protective case and prevent it from sliding or being damaged.
• Do not leave it in the vehicle for an extended period.

⚠️ Extreme heat or cold can permanently damage the laptop and shorten its lifespan.

Lightly spray an LCD-safe cleaner onto a clean microfiber cloth, or use a slightly damp soft cloth. Never spray liquid directly onto the screen.

Gently wipe the screen without allowing moisture to enter around the edges. Let the screen air-dry completely before closing or using the laptop.

⛔ No—customization, modification, or unauthorized repair is not permitted.

District-issued laptops are the property of FBISD and must remain in their original condition.

Students may NOT:

• Apply stickers, accessories, paint, markers, writing, adhesive materials, or other decorations.
• Open the laptop, install components, make modifications, or attempt repairs.
• Remove, peel, cover, alter, or damage the district barcode, asset tag, serial number label, or other identification labels.

Cosmetic damage and unauthorized alterations are not covered by insurance. Cleaning, repair, or replacement fees may be assessed.

⛔ Zero Tolerance for Intentional Damage Intentional damage is not considered accidental and is not covered under EQUIPPED laptop insurance. 

⚠️ Safety Alert: If a device smokes, sparks, overheats, or emits a burning odor, stop using it immediately and do not power it back on. Turn the device in to campus staff or the campus technician.

➤  Safety and Student Conduct Violations

Intentional damage, misuse, or unauthorized tampering with a district-issued laptop poses a serious safety risk and will be treated as:

• Intentional damage to district property, not normal wear and tear.
• A potential safety hazard.
• A behavioral and disciplinary incident, not solely a device repair matter.

➤  Insurance and Financial Responsibility 

• Laptop insurance does NOT cover intentional or willful damage.
• The student remains financially responsible even if insurance was purchased.
• The full replacement cost of $560 may be assessed.
• A replacement laptop will NOT be issued until the charge has been paid in full.
• The incident must be reported to campus administration (AP) for safety review and disciplinary follow-up.

⛔ No—outside or third-party repairs are not permitted.

District-issued laptops are FBISD property and must be evaluated and repaired only through the district’s approved support process.

➤  What to Do: 

• Bring the device to campus IT for evaluation.
• Allow IT staff to document the damage.
• FBISD will determine any applicable insurance coverage or fees in accordance with district policy.

Unauthorized repairs may affect device safety, warranty coverage, data security, and district inventory records. Please email the student ID if assistance with parent communication is needed.
