Spring Evaluation
Students eligible for spring evaluation
- Fort Bend ISD students who enrolled after the closing of the fall referral window (after September 30, 2025)
Referral
- The online referral website link will be available beginning January 8, 2026 on the GT Home Page.
- To submit a referral, the parent/guardian must use the online referral website during the referral window.
- Referrals must be submitted online by the January 31, 2026 deadline. Exceptions will not be made.
- Parent/guardian must consent to have the student tested if a staff member refers the student
- Parent/guardian will receive an email requesting permission to test..
- Students identified for GT services (currently identified for services in any area) may not be referred. (EHBB(LOCAL))
Assessment
- The cognitive abilities test used is the CogAT. Subtests administered are Non-Verbal, Verbal, and Quantitative.
- The Spring testing will take place on February 7, 2026. Location and testing information will be emailed to eligible testers in February 2026.
- Teachers must complete a School Rating Scale for referred students.
- Parents are asked to complete a Home GT Behavior Observation Form in the GT App as part of the referral or consent to test process.
Identification Process
- Assessment scores, School Rating Scale, and Home GT Behavior Observation Form scores are plotted on the Gifted and Talented Identification Profile.
- The District Selection Committee convenes to review results and verify accurate student profiles.
- All student profiles are verified by District GT staff.
- Students who are identified typically meet the following criteria:
- Non-Verbal test score in gifted/high ability range AND;
- Verbal OR Quantitative score in gifted/high ability range.
- Rating scales serve the purpose of providing additional information for students with at least one test score in range.
- All members of the District Identification Committee have been trained in gifted education, specifically in identifying students' needs for the education services provided by the FBISD GT Program.
- Students are identified for services in specific content areas: English Language Arts and Social Studies and/or Math and Science.
Notification
- Parents are notified in writing of the identification decision.
- E-mail notifications were sent on February 11, 2026 between 3:35-4:00pm. They come from "GT Services" if parents want to search for the e-mail.
- As of February 10, 2026 at 11:34am, fall identification profiles are now available in the gt app: gt.fortbendisd.com. Parents can now log in to the GT app to view their child's profile and submit an appeal (if desired).
- Parents are advised of their right to appeal and the process for doing so through the GT app: gt.fortbendisd.com
Appeals
- Parents must appeal within ten days of the date the notification e-mails were sent. All spring identification appeal requests must be submitted in the GT App before Wednesday, February 26, 2026 at 11:59pm.
- The District Appeal Committee will respond with its decision in writing within ten school days of the meeting.
