Get ready for the 6th Annual GEMS Event! The Extended Learning Department and Community Education Program is excited to welcome girls in grades K–5 from across the district for a fun-filled experience focused on leadership, creativity, confidence, and empowerment.

Studies have shown that women make up only 34% of the workforce in science, technology, engineering and math, and men vastly outnumber women majoring in most STEM fields in college. We believe it is imperative that FBISD continues to provide an educational system that will equip all students to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine. By creating a learning environment full of encouragement and confidence building, we are doing our part to empower and inspire our girls to explore their interest in the STEM field. 

Extended Learning is excited to lead the Giraffe Project-a fun, meaningful way to give back to our FBISD community. Our goal is to "stretch our necks" to help students in need by collecting essential items to make a real difference.

All donations support the Shared Dreams Program, which provides short-term assistance-such as clothing, shoes, toiletries, food, and school supplies-to registered students whose needs have been identified by their campus nurse and staff. By pitching in, we're helping every child feel cared for, prepared, and ready to learn.

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.

The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do, and poetry—and discover new skills. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.

Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week (APAW) is a time to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours. The week is marked by celebrations, public relations, and advocacy efforts encouraging appreciation and support for afterschool professionals who make a profound difference in the lives of youth.
