Harvest of the Month

Harvest of the Month Program

The Harvest of the Month program is designed to highlight a specific fruit or vegetable each month, providing an opportunity for children to learn about and try new, fresh produce. This initiative aims to educate students about the nutritional benefits, origins, and fun facts related to each featured item, fostering a greater appreciation for healthy eating and local agriculture.

At Fort Bend ISD, the Child Nutrition department incorporates the Harvest of the Month into their Farm Fresh activities. Each month, a selected fruit or vegetable is featured prominently on the school menu, allowing students to enjoy it in various dishes. This approach not only introduces children to new flavors but also supports local farmers and promotes sustainable practices.

Benefits of the Program

  • Educational Opportunities: By focusing on a specific fruit or vegetable each month, students can learn about its nutritional value, how it's grown, and its role in a balanced diet.
  • Taste Testing: Children get the chance to try new produce, expanding their palate and encouraging healthier food choices.
  • Engagement Activities: Schools can incorporate fun activities, such as cooking demonstrations, farm visits, and interactive lessons, to make learning about fresh produce exciting and engaging.
