Notice of Public Meeting on Proposed Tax Rate, September 15, 2025
The Fort Bend Independent School District will hold a public meeting at 5:30 PM, September 15, 2025 in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 16431 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, Texas. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the school district's proposed tax rate for the 2025-26 school year. Public participation in the discussion is invited.
The Notice of Public Meeting to Discuss Budget and Proposed Tax Rate is a state-required document that explains when the district will hold a meeting on its budget and tax rate. While the notice states that an election is triggered if the rate exceeds $0.9869, it does not explain exceptions that apply in special circumstances. For the current year, the district plans to adopt a total tax rate of $1.0569, which is above the threshold. However, because the district is in an area that was declared a disaster in 2024 and federal aid was requested, state law allows the district to adopt this higher rate without automatically holding an election. The district will still conduct a public meeting and follow all required notice and transparency rules.
